Daniel Ricciardo isn’t expecting to win a Formula One race any time soon – unless it rains.

The Dutchman, having learned the circuit at the wheel of an F1 vehicle for the first time on Friday, established himself as a threat for the second row of the grid hrough third practice and the early stages of qualifying, but ultimately had to settle for fourth overall as a small mistake proved enough for Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo to snatch the upper hand in the pursuit of Mercedes.

“I think there should be another slight chance in Singapore”, said the Australian ahead his 100th grand prix outing at Hockenheim.

“It’s a strong circuit for us and for whatever reason previous year it was a weakness for Mercedes, so if its a similar trend then we can genuinely have a crack there”. So If it is a similar trend we can have a crack there.

“Hopefully we can do something tomorrow and from what I understand we might have different tyres available to us for the race so hopefully that makes a difference”, he concluded.

“We’re close enough, I said yesterday if we can be within half a second that’s not a bad day in qualifying”. It also opens up more opportunities for drivers to make a difference – it is easier to make mistakes, so even if they were quicker there are chances they could make a mistake. “Today we got closer on one-lap pace, so let’s see if it translates into something tomorrow”.

“Hungary was good for me last weekend and it was nice to be on the podium again”, said Ricciardo.

“I had one in Monaco but didn’t really enjoy that one so it was nice to appreciate it in Budapest”.

“Some more consistent podiums would be good and, yeah, leave Sundays feeling happy – that’s always important”.
