The western North Dakota park on Saturday offered free admission to mark National Public Lands Day.

From 9 a.m.to 1 p.m., local district officials will partner with the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument at the Pinyon Flats Transfer Station, off Highway 74, and the Sawmill Trailhead near the Pinyon Flats Campground.

National Public Lands Day brings together volunteers from coast to coast to improve and restore the lands and facilities that Americans use for recreation, education, exercise and enjoyment.

Volunteers will lend a hand at more than 100 national parks in 37 states.

In addition, the Corps will thank our NPLD volunteers by issuing each a “fee-free coupon”, which is valid for one year from the date of issue. NPLD 2015 will take place on Saturday, September 26.

On national forests, grasslands and prairies, almost 110,000 volunteers and service members contributed 4.6 million hours on critical projects a year ago. Visitors who plan to spend time in the park beyond September 26 will need to pay the regular entrance fee the remainder of their stay.
