Community leaders, police and residents are being urged to come together at police precincts throughout the city to honor Officer Randolph Holder and other NYPD officers killed in the line of duty.
A spokeswoman for Bronx DA Robert Johnson said prosecutors reluctantly agreed to abide by Nuñez’s decision – and not continue with their prosecution of Howard – when they learned about it. The officer died hours later at a hospital.
Holder’s partner returned fire at the shooter who continued to run north along the footpath but was caught by responding officers. The gun was under 20 feet of water and “they’re on their belly and they’re searching for it by hand”.
Chief of Manhattan detectives William Aubry said a weapon consistent with the gun officials were looking for was found around 3 a.m. Sunday by divers. Ballistics tests showed the.40-caliber Glock pistol was the weapon used to shoot Officer Randolph Holder in the head, the station reported Monday.
Investigators are still determining how or if the men were involved in the events of that night and whether they exchanged fire with Howard.
This story has been corrected to show the name of the police officer killed is Randolph Holder, not Rudolph Holder. “The system is broken and it needs to be fixed fast – before more cops get killed”, a high-ranking police source told The Post on Sunday.
