The authorities say that most of the dead and injured in the villages were victims of landslides caused by the torrential rain and heavy winds.

Macedonian MIA agency said that a ten-year-old child had died in the flooding, while the lifeless body of a 13-year-old girl “most likely from the village of Shipkovac” was brought to the hospital in Tetovo.

Hundreds of local residents were evacuated from Tetovo and surrounding areas in what’s described as the worst storm to hit the region in 35 years.

Regional officials said that a least seven villages in the region had lost road access because of mudslides, while the storm had also cause a bridge collapse and the overnight closure of the road to neighboring Kosovo.
