Algiers- Four Italian nationals were kidnapped in Libya, announced Monday the Italian Foreign Ministry in a statement.
“We are busy trying to find the people that were kidnapped and trying to solve this problem”, Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said.
Italy had shut down its embassy in Libya on February 15 and urged Italians to leave the country because of risks to foreigners there, the ministry statement said.
The country is beset with warring factions four years after the civil war that ousted leader Muammar Gaddafi. The group controlling the Libyan capital of Tripoli and adjacent western areas is not recognized internationally.
