The spokesman said two AK-47 rifles have been recovered from the site of the encounter.

The spokesperson further said that as the reports last came in, “the Army was continuing to search and sanitise the area to ensure safety and security of the awaam (people)”.

The group of infiltrators after being challenged opened indiscriminate fire with sophisticated weapons which was retaliated by the army manning the fence, he said.

“The operation is going on”, he said, adding further details were awaited.

“We are yet to register an FIR in the encounter”.

He, however, said army may approach them for further proceedings tomorrow. “The operation is still in progress in the Kanzalwan area of Gurez”.
