At 4.25pm on Sunday, police were called to reports of a stabbing on Wornington Road, and a 15-year-old boy was taken to a central London hospital. The teenager’s injuries are non-life threatening.
Scotland Yard yesterday arrested more than 100 people on suspicion of various offences, including 50 related to drugs, 20 for possession of offensive weapons, four for actual bodily harm, two for grievous bodily harm, one for theft and one for public disorder.
As of 10pm last night, officers had made 105 arrests including some people who had been detained for more than one offence. In addition, 26 knives were seized by police.
The carnival continued into Monday.
Sunday’s festivities included the traditional Children’s Day parade through the streets of west London as part of the event’s family day.
Many local businesses have closed during the event since 1977, when police stormed the carnival amid looting of shops.
London Ambulance service said more than 1,000 people had been treated over the two days of the festival, with 170 of the most seriously injured taken to hospital.
In the fourth incident, a man presented himself to officers at Kensal Rise tube station and told them he had received a cut to his hand after being stabbed.
Organisers of the Notting Hill Carnival did not respond to requests by IBTimes UK for comments.
The carnival, founded in 1966 by West Indian immigrants after the Notting Hill race riots of 1958, frequently has involved clashes with police.
The two-day event, which took place over a United Kingdom bank holiday, is described as Europe’s biggest street party.
Taking place every August Bank Holiday weekend in London, the Notting Hill Carnival is an unbelievable array of sounds, colourful sights and social solidarity.
