Four Teams Earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards
Two Samford University teams have received public recognition awards for the 2014-15 academic year from the National Collegiate Athletic Association. The baseball and women’s tennis teams have won the award for four straight years – the longest running streaks for the Seahawks – and are joined by men’s basketball with the most (5) awards for a single program.

With the two teams earning recognition this year, Samford has had at least two teams earn the award in each year of the 11-year existence of the April. Specifically, these teams posted multiyear APRs in the top 10 percent of all squads in each sport.
The Atlantic 10 Conference had 56 teams recognized Wednesday by the NCAA for ranking in the top 10 percent of their respective sports in Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores.
For a program-record seventh time, the University of Arkansas women’s golf program earned a public recognition award for its exemplary academic performance from the NCAA on Wednesday.
The scores required to be in the top 10 ranged from 983 to a flawless 1,000, depending on the sport.
DePaul’s highest total was seven teams in 2010-11 and 2011-12 after having six teams earn the honor in 2004-05, 2009-10, 2012-13 and 2013-14.
“To know our student-athletes in these sports are outperforming 90 percent of their peer group demonstrates an everyday commitment to excellence”, Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs said. “Our women’s golf program is a great example of how academic and athletics success can work together to further meet our mission of developing student-athletes to their fullest potential through intercollegiate athletics”.

Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced April 20. The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.
