Fournette’s 5 TDs lead No. 22 LSU over Texas Tech 56-27
Fournette scored four touchdowns as he rushed for 212 yards and was named the unanimous MVP of the bowl game in LSU’s victory over the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 56-27.

The win caps an up-and-down season for the Tigers, who were ranked as high as No. 2 at one point, only to endure a three-game losing streak in November that nearly cost Les Miles his job.
Fournette adding to the score in the 2nd quarter when he took a 44 yard Brandon Harris pass to the endzone to make it 21-6. LSU running back Leonard Fournette said the players met separately from the coaches during bowl game preparation for extra practice to send the seniors out the right way.
Texas Tech closed the gap when Grant grabbed a 46-yard touchdown pass, but the 2-point conversion failed and the score was 7-6.
The All-American running back took a screen pass to the house, had five carries of 20+ yards and was the kind of dominant, big-play back that made him the Heisman favorite for two-thirds of the season. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound sophomore finished the year with 1,953 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns. DJ Chark had a 79 yard run for a touchdown on an end around in the first half.
Texas Tech: QB Patrick Mahomes. The Tigers forced Tech into numerous third-and-Mahomes situations, dragging him to the ground on occasion while on others he slipped away like a phantom.
Fournette’s fourth touchdown was a dagger to the Raiders. With Texas Tech looking to take the lead, Patrick Mahomes was intercepted and LSU would ride the momentum from there, going on a 35-7 run to close out the game, to win the game 56-27. Trailing 28-20, Texas Tech was threatening at the LSU 16-yard line when Tigers defensive back Rickey Jefferson picked off a deflected pass near the goal line to end the Red Raiders’ drive.
Karson Roberts threw two touchdown passes and had 69 yards rushing and another score for Air Force. Second-leading receiver Travin Dural, who missed LSU’s last two games with a torn hamstring, also is expected to return. Tech was held to 399 yards after entering the game No. 2 in the nation with 594 yards a game.
LSU racked up 638 total yards on Texas Tech’s beleaguered defense and averaged 9.6 yards per rush.
With so many players from the Houston area on the roster, did you see emotions play a bigger part than usual in tonight’s game? LSU’s following possession led to a touchdown.
James Butler scored on a 4-yard run with 1:06 left and Nevada benefited from a late gaffe by Colorado State to beat the Rams 28-23 in the inaugural Arizona Bowl Tuesday night.
To a point, the frustrations of Tigers fans are understandable; LSU appears to possess the pieces for an offense that could give opponents nightmares. Harris faked it to Fournette and kept for a 26-yard touchdown run and 42-20 lead with nine seconds to go in the third period.
