Fournette says loss to Alabama “not the end of the world”

Derrick Henry rushed for 210 yards and three touchdowns in 38 carries to stabilize Alabama’s standing in the college football playoff.

Tigers fans will be wise to remember the shattered Crimson Tide after LSU took a close game in Tuscaloosa.

Ohio State and Alabama are on collision course to square off again during the semifinals of the College Football Playoff on New Years Eve, according to Fox Sports’ Stewart Mandel.

“I was very emotional after the game and I am not really like that”, Mills said. His previous low this season was 154 yards. It’s a comparison that didn’t interest Henry.

The narrative emerging from the game is that Alabama sold out to stop the run and that LSU failed to adjust, only throwing 19 passes.

Since division play began in the SEC, UF and Alabama have played just as many times (seven) in the championship game as they have in the regular season.

No. 6 MI State and No. 10 Iowa, two of the three unbeaten teams left in the Big Ten, are on the road this weekend and only single-digit favorites against struggling teams. With the big game, he’s now up to 1,254 rushing yards in nine games.

Fournette gained just 9 yards on five carries in that game.

But it was too late. Alabama didn’t let up from there. The Alabama offense leaned on Henry and he answered every time.

LSU had to punt on their next four drives, while Alabama added a touchdown and a field goal after long drives of their own. Where Louisiana State star running back Leonard Fournette and TCU quarterback Trevone Boykin seemed way out ahead for weeks, now comes a time to churn out fresh names. It happened in unlikely fashion. Florida’s main problem was turnovers – it lost the ball four times. “I’d like to tell you that we gave Leonard an opportunity to run”. “And champions figure out ways to win them”.

“It’s only one game”, he said. He was held to 1 or negative yards on 12 of his 19 carries and had a 1.6-yard per carry average after coming in averaging 7.7 yards a pop. I also excluded plays in which LSU was using three or more receivers or facing third-and-long, because the threat of the run is reduced in those situations. Freshman defensive end CeCe Jefferson fumbled at the end of a fake field goal. And Demarcus Robinson coughed it up trying to gain extra yards.

“We just fought through adversity”, Harris said.

The game was bad, the numbers are worse. The guys woke up and know that anything can happen. “We saw we could fight and make a way to win a game”.

Equally troubling for the Gators, after their lone touchdown – Taylor’s 11th scoring run of the season – walk-on Neal MacInnes shanked the extra point. Florida holds a 4-3 edge. Then, after Arkansas scored on a 9-yard pass from Allen to Drew Morgan, its first attempt at a two-point conversion failed, but Ole Miss’ Marquis Haynes was called for a facemask penalty. Arkansas improved to 5-4, 3-2. The winning bidder, who has not yet been identified, also will get autographed LSU and SC helmets from Miles and former SC coach Steve Spurrier. A big night (150 yards, multiple scores) against MI State or MI might do the trick in the hunt for that Heisman moment. Kentucky had only 180 yards on offense.
