LSU quarterback Danny Etling (16) warms up for the team’s NCAA college football game against MS in Baton Rouge, La., Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016.

Defensive end Davon Godchaux led the defensive line with nine tackles and also picked up one of two sacks against Kelly – Key had the other. Some of the big gains have come from running back Derrius Guice, a fast, elusive ball carrier who is finding bigger gaps in the defense because of the way LSU’s offense has begun to spread defenses out.

Fournette has not played since the Auburn loss on September 24 when he re-injured his left ankle. He rattled off electrifying touchdown runs of 59, 76 and 78 yards.

“Man, when I tell you that was one of the hardest things of my life”, Fournette said. “Especially dealing with this injury”.

“You know, Dave Aranda is pretty sharp”, said Orgeron about LSU’s Defensive Coordinator. I hated that, and I don’t want any competition between us or nobody on the team. The team improves to 5-2 and remains undefeated under interim head coach Ed Orgeron. Danny Etling is completing 58.8% of his passes for 925 yards, 6 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions for LSU.

Ole Miss scored two touchdowns, two field goals and converted a two-point conversion on its way to 21 points. “Youth is no longer an answer in certain places, and neither are injuries”. There’s still a long ways to go this season, but Orgeron is making the best possible case for LSU to keep him on a full-time basis.

He picked up where he left off in the third quarter with a 78-yard run to make it 28-21. That’s almost 197 less than Alabama gave up against the Rebels in the third week of the season. His performance puts him right back in Heisman Trophy consideration. Kelly leads the SEC in passing yards a game with 308. In rushing, Evan Engram posted 111 yards and a touchdown in seven catches while Quincey Abeboyejo added t61 yards in four catches.

Fournette lost one yard on his first carry of the game on LSU’s second series of the first quarter as the Tigers punted after three plays on their first two possessions. The offense accounted for 104 second half yards and 50 of those yards were on the final drive of the game with the winning margin secured.

The Rebels gave up 515 total yards to the Tigers, including 284 rushing yards to Leonard Fournette. Twice, he cut inside stout blocks on the right edge by Maea Teuhema.

Orgeron faces his former team Saturday at 8 pm at Tiger Stadium. If healthy, Fournette could bolster LSU (4-2, 2-1 in the SEC) during a six-week stretch in which it will play five teams ranked in this week’s AP Top 25: Saturday vs. Ole Miss is 1-3 against ranked teams this season.
