Fourth-quarter performance difference between Giants, Saints
It was proven in the New York Giants’ regular season opener against the Dallas Cowboys that the Giants have a very formidable defensive line.

Jean-Rene: The loss of Delvin Breaux is huge for the Saints’ defense. He also missed last week’s game against the Oakland Raiders. Eli Manning completed 19 of 28 passes for 207 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception Rashad Jennings got the bulk of the workload out of the backfield, racking up 75 yards on 18 carries.
This could be a major advantage for the Giants, who did a good job previous year in a 52-49 loss at the Saints in passing the ball.
The cut will result in $4.5 million against New Orleans’ cap and $2.5 million next year.
Let me take you back to last year’s game real quick. Fifteen games remain, AND quarterback Drew Brees is under contract through next season with a manageable cap figure.
The Saints are trying to avoid an 0 and 2 hole Sunday in NY, and I’m not too optimistic it’s going to happen. “I don’t really look at previous year as any type of indication as to how this is going to go”. “I think he’s gonna have another opportunity sooner than later with another club”. “But I think that it’s more hard on the back end if the quarterback has time and is able to sit in the pocket and get to his third and fourth receivers, and that happened a little bit in the second half (against the Raiders)”. “We can match up all the way around the board with anybody as long as we play within the system and play within the scheme”. He played fewer than 200 snaps in New Orleans, and he’s not alone. New Orleans is 1-5 ATS in the last 6 meeting in NY. Saints have league’s best offense and next-to-last defense.
Benching $38 million cornerback Sean Smith midway through the third quarter and sitting him for the remainder of the afternoon clearly stood out and raised eyebrows in Oakland’s locker room as well as around the NFL.
“I wouldn’t expect it to be that high scoring with this defense that we have”, Odell Beckham Jr. said.
Ed: Who are some young Saints players we might not know much about, but whom we should be looking for on Sunday? . Throw in veteran Giants’ wide receiver Victor Cruz and the task becomes more hard.

Notes: Payton said Tuesday’s release of running back C.J. Spiller was accelerated by the need to sign another cornerback on the heels of Breaux’s injury. But the rookie has sure hands and has turned heads since training camp, so he is definitely one to watch. The former Florida State Seminole has a ton of potential, but Sunday will be the biggest test in his budding National Football League career yet.
