Fox Business host blames pot for Johnson’s Aleppo gaffe

Speaking after the interview, Johnson said told reporters he “blanked” and later suggested he thought Aleppo may have been an acronym.

Never mind the unusual phrasing of the MSNBC commentator’s question, which one could surmise would not be directed at Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump in such an unusual manner, at least without the cue that he’s referring to “Syria”.

He told supporters on Saturday that the civil war in Syria is just one in a long string of USA attempts at “regime change”, an issue he said is a key issue that Libertarians oppose. But as of yet, his breakout has failed to materialize. A Washington Post poll released this week finds they do have the support of 15 to 25 percent of voters in 15 states. Much of that is because of how repulsive Clinton and Trump are to the average American.

Johnson pivoted to arguing against military interventions in foreign countries, and said that the refugee crisis “is the result of regime change that we end up supporting, and, inevitably, these regimes have led to a less safe world”. “At this point, the most important thing to us is being in the debates”.

Johnson is now polling around 9 percent, with some polls putting him as high as 12 percent – still short of the threshold to make the debates.

Bill Weld, Johnson’s running mate, is also playing down the criticism.

Ron Neilson, Johnson’s campaign manager, said in an interview that making the debates will be challenging.

Johnson failed to break out from obscurity when he ran for president in 2012. Sanders said at the time.

Outside of the contempt many people had for Trump and Clinton, Johnson would have Weld, a former MA governor, at his side.

There are more self-identified independent voters in the United States than voters affiliated with either major party.

Therein, the magazine highlighted one embarrassing blunder the candidate has made – one that again raises questions about Johnson’s readiness to take the Oval Office… Romney, a leading Republican critic of Trump, stopped short of endorsing the Libertarian ticket.

But his endorsement never came. About the awful humanitarian crisis that’s unfolding not only in Syria, but especially in Aleppo, you asked, ‘What is Aleppo?’ Do you really believe that foreign policy is so insignificant that somebody running for President of the United States should not even know what Aleppo is? But Johnson’s flub brought a wave of interest.

“OK, got it”, he said, explaining that he thinks that the United States must partner with Russian Federation to diplomatically improve the situation there.

In a statement after the tweet, Johnson said he was “gratified” Romney had joined those calling for his party’s inclusion in the debates.
