Fox digging in heels over ‘Fantastic Four 2’
But it doesn’t mean that 20th Century Fox is done with the gamma-irradiated superheroes. The studio is reportedly still confident in these characters’ capabilities and potential in making a name for themselves in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Still, Fantastic Four 2 remains on the schedule, and speculation that this could finally be the moment when Marvel could swoop in and rescue their first family is premature. The Washington Post article is also among those that note that the Fantastic Four reboot seems to be sharing the same cursed fate as it predecessors.

Several sources said that the director failed in producing material that would have rescued the film from dire straits, and he even refused help from anybody who wanted to give some input.
“After the opening weekend, things calm down a little bit, and it’s sort of set in stone how the movie is going to perform”, he told The News.
Unable to weather months of toxic buzz and withering reviews, the Fantastic Four reboot landed with a thud in theaters this weekend, barely clearing $26 million on almost 4000 screens and settling for a second-place finish behind last week’s #1, Mission: Impossible-Rogue Nation.

This is rather surprising, as most analysts expected Fox to throw in the towel after three strikes, allowing Marvel to reclaim the Fantastic Four film rights. What remains to be seen is whether or not this incident overall will test Fox’s resolve to try to support their filmmakers.
In large part due to the poor performance of Fantastic Four over the weekend, Crockett now estimates a 4.3 percent rise in domestic box office in the third quarter, 280 basis points less than he had previously forecast. The studio giant bought the rights more than ten years ago long before Marvel started producing its own movies.

However, Comic Book reports that Fox is really in no pressure to make another “Fantastic Four” movie successful since they still have “Deadpool” and “Gambit” to focus on.
