FOX News and Roger Ailes Negotiating His Departure

Kelly has not publicly denied that report. “The review is ongoing”. Among them was Megyn Kelly, a star Fox host, according to NY magazine. She added that there are “lots of proposals and ideas going around”.

NY magazine followed up with reports of other women who said they had been harassed by Ailes as far back as the 1960s.

New York Magazine reports that high-profile Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly, too, may have been harassed and might be involved with an outside investigation into Ailes’ behavior.

New York Magazine’s Daily Intelligencer, citing anonymous sources, reported Monday that 21st Century Fox co-chairmen Rupert Murdoch and Lachlan Murdoch and CEO James Murdoch had chose to remove Ailes. 21st Century Fox said that “Roger is at work”. One Fox source says the article is spin and that there’s no talk of mass-exodus among anchors. The Wall Street Journal, a publication that was part of the same company as 21st Century Fox until mid-2013, likewise reported that he was in negotiations to exit the network. “Kelly, according to the sources, has described her harassment by Ailes in detail”.

His expected departure leaves unanswered questions about the future of Fox News. Ailes has denied the charges.

Ailes is facing a sexual harassment lawsuit from former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson.

James Murdoch reportedly wanted to give Ailes the option to step down or be fired this week, while his father and brother preferred to hold off until this week’s Republican National Convention was over. “The only agreement that is in place is his existing employment agreement”. The contract of Carlson, who said there was an atmosphere of harassment at Fox, was not renewed when it ended last month. Ailes called Carlson’s suit “defamatory” and said he would vigorously defend himself against the claims. Fox said Monday its review of the accusations hasn’t been completed.

In her case, the former Miss America alleges the blustering media bigshot tried to coax her into having sex and then fired her when she rebuffed his advances after an 11-year run at Fox. Ailes also stocked Fox News’s ranks with attractive blond female news readers and positioned them on news sets with their bare legs exposed.

There is no obvious successor to Mr. Ailes. He advised Richard Nixon on television strategy ahead of the 1968 presidential contest and later was involved in the campaigns of other Republican presidents, including Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush.

News of Ailes’ impending exit landed like a shock wave in Cleveland, where numerous nation’s leading television executives and personalities were gathered in tight quarters.

“I noticed the people who’ve been saying “he never sexually harassed me” also, by the way, work for Fox News, which was such a weird coincidence”, Coulter told HuffPost.
