Fox News Republican presidential debate in Detroit
“I never saw myself as a part of the Republican establishment”, Christie asserted in a sprawling, one-hour, 45-minute Trenton news conference. “Let me tell you something, Ted, the last person that Hillary Clinton wants to face is Donald Trump”.

It was a surprising attempt at recasting from Christie, but in some way, he had little choice but to disown his heritage.
The GOP presidential campaign hasn’t exactly been a barrel of laughs, and that was true of Thursday’s debate in Detroit.
At Thursday’s debate, Trump’s rivals assailed him for shifting positions on the issues but said in the end they would reluctantly support him if he were their party’s nominee.
Tamyra Murray of Frankenmuth and Kim Millikin of Vassar came to the debate to support Trump, and were angered by moderators pressing him on past inconsistent statements. “Sometimes, reality is stranger than fiction around here these days”.
Trump often made his sharpest attacks against Rubio, who is third in most polls. He also promised to turn his energy and venom on the Democratic-controlled Legislature over the budget, transportation funding and his latest nominee to the Supreme Court.
Trump endorsed Romney for president when he was the GOP nominee in 2012.
“I understand the things that Governor Romney is saying, and he’s objected to”.
“I’m a leader. I’ve always been a leader”.
First, some context: Earlier in the night, when Trump was asked about some of his past policy shifts, he said, “I have a very strong core”. And it was Romney who picked Christie to deliver the Republican National Convention keynote address that year.
Christie rejected suggestions that Trump’s slow disavowal of ex-Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke was a carefully calibrated nod-and-wink to white supremacists. “Donald Trump is no bigot”, he asserted.
The rating marks a decline in positive sentiment for Trump. He was sticking with him merely as a pragmatic matter.
The Fox News Channel debate among Republican front-runner Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and John Kasich drew 16.9 million viewers, according to early Nielsen data provided by the network on Friday. “That’s what political choices are all about”. USA senators Rubio, of Florida, and Cruz, of Texas, questioned Trump’s immigration policy and his use of foreign workers at his exclusive Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida.
“You know what they got in these courses?” Yes, in the end, as it had been all day during this news cycle, it was All About Trump.
Trump, with 10 state victories, continues to dominate the conversation and the delegate count.
Trump found himself defending his business record and his conservative credentials on several fronts, lashed out repeatedly at Marco Rubio, and drew groans and gasps when he offered an unsolicited defense of the size of his genitalia. I guarantee you there is no problem.

But a Trump downfall could have long-term consequences. “And you’re not going to stop the corruption in Washington by supporting someone who has supported liberal Democrats for four decades, from Jimmy Carter to John Kerry to Hillary Clinton”.
