Fox removes Fantastic Four 2 from its upcoming slate
Not critics, based on the reviews, and not audiences either, based on the box office. Nevertheless, 20th Century Fox continued to insist that it was “committed” to the franchise, with a sequel already dated for 2017.

Fantastic Four was the most talked about flop of the year, and while it may not end up being the biggest financial loss, the sheer amount of negative press the film received should have had Fox incredibly anxious. To be clear, that doesn’t necessarily mean the project is cancelled.
And it now seems as if Kinberg has backtracked on that earlier enthusiasm, with Fantastic Four 2 quietly disappearing from Fox’s slate of upcoming pictures.
We wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Fantastic Four’s sequel is officially off their radar for good, considering just how much of a disaster the first film was, but it’s a superhero property, so anything is possible.
The rights to “Fantastic Four” are now being held by co-producers Constantin Film, whose deal with Marvel states their rights will revert back if another movie isn’t produced by 2022, according to the Independent newspaper. Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four got a lot of undue flack and critical lambasting earlier this year which, bundled with rumors of some intense infighting between Trank and his cast and crew, made for a dismal opening weekend and a whole mess of disappointed fans who have been waiting for someone (anyone!) to adapt this potentially sensational source material into a decent movie.
If Fox actually does make another Fantastic Four, though, it’s tough to guess what it’ll look like. That February 26, 2016 date will now be occupied by the Taron Egerton-starring skiing biopic Eddie the Eagle, which was previously announced for April 1, 2016.

In other 20th Century Fox news, its adaptation of Murder on the Orient Express is now due to hit theaters November 11th, 2017.
