France, Russian Federation reach Mistral compensation deal – RIA

France suspended indefinitely the delivery of the first of two Mistrals to Russian Federation last November because of the continued Ukraine crisis and Russia’s alleged role in supporting independence- seeking insurgents in eastern Ukraine. I hope that the agreement concerning the cancellation of the contract will be signed in the nearest future.

The Iranian customers especially asked for the S-300 system, of which certain elements are still being updated, Kozhin said.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on May 25 that all issues surrounding the delivery of the S-300 system to Iran were progressing well, adding that the defense system would be delivered to Iran in the soonest opportunity possible.

Putin said the nuclear deal “envisages reliable guarantees of the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear program”.

Vladimir Kozhin, an adviser to President Vladimir Putin, confirmed that a refund deal was reached but would not reveal the figure.

Press TV quoted the aide as saying that the Russian-built S-300 air defense system was to be modernised before being delivered to Iran, given the fact the original contract was struck a long-time ago.

Under the deal, the U.S., European Union and United Nations will lift sanctions against Iran in exchange for Tehran agreeing to long-term curbs on its nuclear programme that the West and Israel have feared was aimed at creating a nuclear bomb.

He expressed confidence that the deal will “have a positive impact on security and stability in the Middle East”, according to the Kremlin’s statement, as reported by The Jerusalem Post.

The two leaders also called on all relevant parties to join efforts to fight against the Islamic State terrorist group.
