France says detects first sexually transmitted Zika case

The varied outcomes of nine pregnant US women the agency has identified with Zika, as well as the hundreds of USA women that have sought out tests for the virus, underscore the angst and uncertainty that the diseases is causing as it spreads through much of the Americas, particularly when it comes to worries over severe birth defects associated with illness.

Approximately half a million pregnant women travel to the United States annually from the 32 Zika-affected countries and US territories with active transmission of Zika virus, the CDC said.

L.A. County’s Public Health department has issued a travel warning for Angelenos headed to several Latin American and Caribbean countries where Zika infections are more widespread.

Roberts also mentioned the use of a genetically-engineered mosquito, which has been tested in Brazil and asked if the United States is considering this technology. The virus however is not spread through casual contact.

“If you are a young woman who is pregnant, and not many athletes will be, or planning to get pregnant, then there are precautions you should take”. However, the growing belief that Zika can also trigger microcephaly in babies born to mothers infected while pregnant has spread worldwide alarm. DOH has received numerous inquiries from asymptomatic, pregnant women and their healthcare providers and has determined that this expansion of testing will provide pregnant women and their doctors with the valuable information they need to make the best healthcare decisions. Eight other cases are still being investigated, according to a CDC statement.

Zika is suspected of causing microcephaly, a debilitating birth defect in which the brain and skull do not develop fully.

Five of the women had Zika symptoms in the first trimester, including the miscarriages, abortions and newborn with microcephaly. As there is no vaccine or treatment for Zika virus disease, we must protect the European Region by stopping the disease at its source.

“If you have a male partner who goes to the Olympics, either use condoms or abstain from sex for the duration of your pregnancy”, the agency wrote.

State health officials say two more Iowa travelers have become ill with the Zika virus.

– Three of the women have delivered babies; two of the newborns are apparently healthy, and one was born with microcephaly.

The case due to sexual transmission, has been detected last few days, ” in a woman who is not pregnant”, traveling to Guyana, said the minister. “We did not expect to see these brain abnormalities in this small case series of U.S. pregnant travellers”, said Dr. Denise Jamieson, a birth defects expert serving on CDC’s Zika Virus Response Team.
