France vs. Armenia: Score and Twitter Reaction from 2015 Friendly

Karim Benzema scored twice but then picked up a thigh injury as France claimed an emphatic 4-0 home win in a friendly against Armenia on Thursday.

Griezmann opened the scoring 10 minutes before the interval, firing home a powerful low shot from just outside the box after a fine one-two with Benzema.

Kasparov again did well again a few moments later, getting down low to prevent Benzema netting with a rasping strike from the edge of the area.

A sloppy turnover from Armenia in midfield sent Griezmann off to the races down the right flank. “He would like to score a little more, obviously, but we are a team so we wish that the French national team scores much more”, the 28-year-old told a press conference.

However, the 27-year-old hobbled off in the 80th minute, feeling his left thigh, and Deschamps, who said prior to kickoff that he would not substitute Benzema in response to the striker being taken off in six of his eight matches for Madrid so far this term, has admitted that early indications suggest a hamstring problem.

Nevertheless, he will be wary that France now possess a wide array of forward options, with the likes of Antoine Griezmann, Alexandre Lacazette, Anthony Martial and Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud all competing with him for a starting place in the France team.

It was France’s third victory in a row after the Euro 2016 hosts beat Serbia and Portugal in friendlies last month.

France are already without Paul Pogba for their upcoming friendly against Denmark, per ESPN FC, so losing Benzema for that match would leave them without two of their biggest stars. They now have just two points after seven matches in Group I and are well out of the running for next year’s Euros.
