Frank de Boer determined to finish Crystal Palace project

Burnley manager Sean Dyche sees the pressure that is on Frank de Boer, boss of Sunday’s opponents Crystal Palace, as a sign of the acute lack of patience in modern football.

Today was Chris Wood sixth league game against the Eagles – all with different clubs (West Brom, Birmingham, Bristol City, Millwall, Leicester and Burnley).

The winger Chung-yong Lee was brought in to bolster Palace’s supply line.

Burnley won both Premier League matches against Crystal Palace last season, their first league double over them since 2001/02.

Frank de Boer insists he will fight on as Crystal Palace manager after his side suffered a fourth successive defeat without scoring at Burnley.

There has been widespread speculation about the future of former Ajax Amsterdam coach De Boer, who arrived at Crystal Palace amid talk of transforming the team’s style but who has yet to gather a point. “I’m convinced we are going to achieve it”. De Boer also spent the majority of the match in his technical area, but seemed distinctly less comfortable and certainly more muted than his counterpart.

“We have given a lot of sloppy goals away already and that was even worse”. “I just focus on what I do”.

“The only thing I can control is to work very hard with the boys”.

Schlupp should have levelled the scores with just under 20 minutes remaining, finding himself with space inside the penalty area, but he got everything wrong, leaning back and firing wildly over the crossbar.

The South Korea worldwide badly misjudged the pass and left his goalkeeper stranded, Wood duly steering home an excellent first-time finish from outside the area.

To their credit the visitors refused to buckle and were nearly level within a minute when Dann took aim from the right side of the box and his deflected shot was booted off the line by Matthew Lowton.

Then, in the 89th minute, Palace defender Scott Dann was presented with a virtual open goal but he headed wide.

The latter replaced an injured Heaton in the first half and promptly played the match of his life, making two spectacular saves that could well feature on highlight reels by the end of the season.

Pope made a good save to deny Benteke one-on-one with 11 minutes to go, while Dann had another goal-bound strike blocked by the heel of James Tarkowski.
