NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, a Bronxville resident, said: “Frank Gifford was an icon of the game, both as a Hall of Fame player for the Giants and Hall of Fame broadcaster for CBS and ABC”. Gifford spent twelve seasons with the New York Giants and was named the NFL’s MVP in 1956.

On April 18, 1994 Gifford threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Sea Dogs’ first game in Portland. “When he showed up here, we knew we were going to laugh”. “We r steadfast in our faith & finding comfort in knowing where Frank is”, she tweeted, adding, “Philippians 4:13”. His 5,434 yards receiving were a Giants record for 39 years, until Amani Toomer surpassed him in 2003.

After retiring as a player, Gifford remained in the spotlight and continued to advance the NFL’s popularity as a member of the Monday Night Football booth for more than a quarter-century. In 1995, he was honored with the Pete Rozelle Award for his contributions to radio and television in pro football.

Our hearts break for Kathie Lee Gifford. His death comes one week before his 85th birthday. Cosell made me want to be a TV play-by-play man. Meredith brought the entertainment, but I probably learned the most about the game from Frank Gifford.

Gifford became a star off the field after he was done playing.

Frank Gifford was the ultimate Giant”, Giants co-owner John Mara said in a statement. I always loved seeing Frank on our sideline before our games.

Our prayers go out to the Gifford family at this time.

In a joint statement with her children, Cody andCassidy Gifford, Kathie Lee had confirmed Frank’s loss on Sunday.

We should all be as lucky as Gifford to count on an eloquent speaker like Al Michaels to speak lovingly about us when we’re gone.

“Very few people are blessed enough to call their father a legend, and an even smaller number are able to share that notion with the rest of the world”, Cassidy Gifford wrote in the online remembrance.
