Drive-by flu shot clinics are coming once again to north Georgia, and there is no easier, safer way to protect against the flu while helping prepare communities for disaster.
Flu vaccines will be available at the Sedgwick County Division of Health clinic, 2716 W. Central in Wichita, beginning September 19, 2016.

Those with high risks are seniors, children under the age of five, pregnant women and people with underlying medical conditions. A sliding fee scale is available for children who qualify.
“We’re glad we live in a country where we have vaccinations available and we don’t have to put children and vulnerable adults at risk of getting the flu”, Wall added. Visit www.flu.gov for information about resources in your area.
The Centers for Disease Control recommends nearly everyone ages six months and older – particularly those with chronic health conditions – receive the yearly vaccination. Residents interested in the regular flu vaccine do not need to pre-register. Annually, scientists reportedly attempt at matching the viruses in the vaccine to those who are probable to cause influenza that year.
Who can get the nasal spray flu vaccine? Sometimes people still catch the flu but generally have a milder case than if they had gone unvaccinated, or had flu-like symptoms that were caused by a different virus.
Flu-like symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.
“While it is disappointing to see data suggesting that the nasal spray vaccine is not working as well as expected, we are pleased that flu shots did perform well last season”, State Health Officer Karen McKeown said.
Wash your hands. Use hand sanitizer if soap and running water are not available.
There is no live virus in flu shots and the vaccine can not cause the flu.
Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is an extremely contagious respiratory illness caused by viruses that appear most in the winter or early spring.
Doctors with the University of Kansas Hospital say that the nasal spray vaccine was ineffective previous year and only worked in three percent of cases.

People ages 65 and older are especially vulnerable to flu’s risky complications because they tend to have more underlying health problems and standard flu shots don’t work as well with their waning immune systems. But they are not ideal; CDC said they reduce the risk of flu by 50 to 60 percent.
