The phone even comes with a one year warranty and is serviceable at 650 centres in India.

The company have unveiled the Freedom 251 – a smartphone that costs just £2.50.

The launch of Freedom 251 is also in line with the Indian government’s goals to connect every Indian and enrich their lives, as well as attract worldwide and local businesses to manufacture in India.

In terms of specs, Freedom 251 sports a 4-inch IPS display rendering a 960×540 pixels resolution.

Freedom 251 owners will have access to all the apps on the Google Play Store, although some of them might push the phone to its limits. The smartphone offers 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage which can be expanded further up to 32GB using a microSD card.

It comes with a 3.2-megapixel autofocus camera at the back and a VGA selfie camera.

Defence Minister Manohar Parrikkar will introduce the smartphone Freedom 251 in the market. Other criticisms on the Freedom 251 include that it is too cheap to make any profit and that the so-called beta version of the phone copies Apple’s iOS icons and resembles Adcom’s Ikon 4. The phone is backed by a 1,450mAh battery and has connectivity features like Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and others.

Booking for this smartphone starts today at 6:00AM, and the window will be open till February 21, 8:00PM.
