The United Kingdom will be the first country outside of America to receive the service, but the company says it has plans to expand to seven other countries within the next year, and over 20 by 2017.

There are two plans for new iPhone owners to choose from, based on either normal use or basic use, and both require a 6 or 6S to be activated on FreedomPop’s network.

Smartphone owners can now apply for the FreedomPop SIM card that comes bundled with 200 minutes, 200 texts and 200MB of data each month for LIFE. The first 10,000 users to sign up in the United Kingdom will be offered a special plan with 1000 minutes of talk time, 1000 texts and 1 GB of data free for the first month of service.

While these plans are for people bringing their own phones to the network, FreedomPop is also going to start selling the iPhone 6S to users in October.

The new network, which rolled out across the United States back in 2012, has now launched its free SIM contracts in the UK. Stokols says the company’s main user is “generally in the under-$125k demographic”.

“Similar to the USA , FreedomPop will deliver unprecedented value to consumers with an easy-to-use, high-quality mobile service”. They include the option to have a second number – speaking to the demand in the United Kingdom for second numbers from many people, for example covering a different geography so that they can have cheaper calls in a region they phone regularly. It will be possible for users to take part in advertising/promotions, use coupons and complete surveys to earn more data, for example.

According to TechCrunch FreedomPop, as the new service is called, works on a freemium business model, providing the basic service for free in the hope that you will then splash out and buy top-ups on your data and call allowance later. “We’ve been playing with it in the USA for hotspot users but it will roll out first in the United Kingdom and very soon after in the U.S”.
