Beckham and Freeman combined to push another run across for the Braves in the sixth via back-to-back doubles.
Harrell, making his fifth start this month but only his eighth in the majors since the end of the 2013 season, gave up four hits and walked three.
Every Atlanta hitter had at least one hit in the contest, and five hitters had two or more hits.
Michael Tonkin relieved Duffey and gave up a pair of runs in 2 1/3 innings on a two-run homer by Freeman.
Mike Foltynewicz (4-4) got the win despite giving up seven runs and 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Jim Johnson pitched a flawless ninth for his third save in six attempts, completing a five-hitter that stopped the Braves’ five-game losing streak. Brian Dozier and Eddie Rosario sandwiched doubles around a Kennys Vargas line-out to get the Twins on the board, and after a Robbie Grossman strikeout, Kurt Suzuki followed with his 7th homer of the season to make it a 7-3 ballgame.
One night after a Minnesota starting pitcher went the distance, Twins right-hander Tyler Duffey barely lasted an inning.
Duffey’s start only went from bad to worse in the second, as Freddie Freeman collected his second RBI hit in as many innings, scoring Jace Peterson after he doubled to lead off the frame.
“I had a short (start) last time out and obviously, I wanted to put us in a good situation today”, Duffey said.
The Atlanta Braves look to build on a rare road victory as they continue their series at Target Field on Wednesday against the Minnesota Twins.
“You want to do well the rest of the season”, Twins interim general manager Rob Antony said this week, “but the chances are, when it all shakes out, you might not be as good of a major league club as you were before you made the trades, and it might be tougher to win some games”. The Braves have won their last seven matchups against the Twins and finished a nine-game road trip 3-6. Miguel Sano also had a two-run single but struck out three times, breaking his bat over his knee after fanning the final time.
Lucas Harrell pitched six innings, Adonis Garcia homered and the Atlanta Braves beat the Minnesota Twins 2-0 on Tuesday night in a matchup of the worst teams in the majors. “But we had chances right down to the end”. Demeritte was hitting. 272 with 25 homers and 59 RBIs in Class-A High Desert this season….
Minnesota: 3B Trevor Plouffe, progressing through baseball-like activities in his recovery from a broken rib, will take live batting practice by the weekend and could begin a rehab assignment next week.
