Police arrested Marcella Lee, 56, 160km south of the Goldsboro home where she lived with her mother. They’d been looking for her for months on a felony charge of failure to report a death.

A neighbor of Roush’s said Lee frequently gave him a different story as to the whereabouts of her mother.

Ms Lee allegedly told the buyer that the appliance was being used as a “time machine” and that it should not be opened. Police found the remains of Arma Ann Roush, 75, in a chest freezer.

The medical examiner listed Roush’s death as unknown with no apparent signs of foul play.

In a 911 call she said: ‘I have a serious problem.

Told the neighbor via WRAL: ‘She sold me her frozen mother for $30. My neighbor sold me a deep freezer.
