Fremont Police K9 Gets Loose, Prompts Search
A missing police dog is safe after a massive search in the South Bay. He was discovered in a creek bed near Almaden Expressway and Branham Lane, Fremont police said in a tweet. He was wearing a metal collar but no name tag.

Officers from the Fremont and San Jose police departments went from yard to yard, searching for Niko, according to the statement.
The dog “is going to be checked out, but appears to be in good health”, police said. He was last seen in the Willow Glen neighborhood. Police did not immediately release the identity of the officer who found Niko. He disappeared Saturday night and was missing for 13 hours.
“The dog went outside like it normally does, and the owner fell asleep on his couch”, Bosques said.
Niko is Fremont’s newest police dog, having only been with the department for a matter of weeks.

Police say volunteers also helped out in the search for the K9. Police did not say when he would resume his duties.
