French Parliament Votes on Extending Islamic State Air Strikes

They called on Russian Federation to join the global effort, but only if Moscow ends its support for Syria’s embattled president.

Strategy Mr Obama was more forceful in outlining his strategy to defeat Isis, in contrast to a press conference in Turkey four days after the Paris attacks when he bristled at repeated questions from reporters about whether he should change his strategy to defeat Islamic State. Controlling this territory by the hands of Turkey, the United States is trying to prevent Russian Federation from blocking the Syrian-Turkish border, where a huge amount of ISSI smuggled oil passes through.

The two agreed to share details on the incident through “diplomatic and military channels”.

“It is important right now to make sure the Russians and Turks are talking to each other to figure out what happened” and “discourage any kind of escalation”, the United States president said.

But Obama appealed to the Russians as well, saying they could have a more constructive role in the coalition is they stop propping up Assad.

“I will tell him that France can work together with Russia if Russia concentrates its military action on Daesh against ISIL, and if Russia fully commits to the political solution in Syria”, said Hollande.

Turkey’s downing of the warplane is the most serious incident involving Russian forces since they entered the conflict in support of Assad. However, he did say that Turkey had a “right to defend its territory and its airspace”.

Despite the competing interests, Russia has stepped up its bombing against IS targets since the group claimed responsibility for downing a Russian airliner in Egypt.

Another CBS News poll released Monday found 69 percent of people believe a terrorist attack in the U.S.is very or somewhat likely to occur in the next few months. Obama spoke to the National Security Council on Tuesday and learned that there was no credible threat against the USA from the Islamic State.

“Viva la France”, Obama added.

“In short”, he said, “this was not only a strike against one of the world’s great cities, it was an attack against the world itself”. “But that’s not enough”. The assessment was based on heat observed from the jet, the official said.

“He asked us to draw up a map of forces that are not terrorists and are fighting Daesh (Islamic State)”.

Obama is calling it a “barbaric terrorist group”.

Obama said the United States and France will continue to share threat information together and with coalition nations, and called on the European Union to implement an agreement that would require airlines to share passenger flight information.

Obama suggested the Paris attack had prompted “new openness” among coalition members to step up their involvement. France has staunchly opposed al-Assad’s remaining in office. Obama hopes he doesn’t run in the next election.

Syria’s civil war, now in its fifth year, has left more than 250,000 people dead and has displaced millions, sparking a refugee crisis in Europe.

Meanwhile, police in France said they were analysing what is thought to be a suicide belt similar to those used in the Paris attacks, found without its detonator in a dustbin in the Montrouge suburb of the capital.

However, Hollande said France will not put troops on the ground in Syria to fight IS.

“I reject identifying migration and terrorism”, he said.
