A top security official said both France’s top counter-terrorism organization, the DGSI, and the country’s elite police were involved in the Thursday raids that targeted two private residences.
The second search was carried out on the Avenue Maurice Utrillo in a neighbourhood known as Val Sud. According to local reports, at least four women were arrested, including an elderly person.
Local witnesses told Le Parisien that police used rubber bullets during the operation.
The operation is not connected to the recent Nice attacks, a justice official told Reuters.
France’s “I-Tele” channel reported the police intervention Wednesday, saying the RAID elite police unit was leading the operation alongside domestic intelligence officers. The information from the source claimed a violent attack may have been planned. It has a population of about 100,000 residents.
It is not the first anti-terrorist operation to be conducted in Argenteuil.
