The 45-year-old sparked a manhunt on Monday after telling police an assailant burst into his classroom before lessons began at the kindergarten in Aubervilliers, northern Paris.
“He is being interviewed with a view to establishing the reasons for this invented story”, news agency Reuters reported, citing a legal source.
“The suspect remains at large after the violent incident in the Paris suburb of Aubervilliers, according to The Associated Press”.
The attacker arrived wearing a balaclava and gloves did not carry any weapon rather he used weapons found in the classroom.
The official reportedly said the teacher stabbed himself to “have himself transferred” to another school.
He claimed his attacked shouted: “That’s for Daesh, this is a warning” as he stabbed him earlier today.
The caution of French authorities comes as no surprise, as Paris has been in a state of emergency ever since November’s terrorist attacks in the capital claimed the life of 130 people and left over 350 wounded.
In a recent French-language publication, Islamic State denounced France’s state school system and urged readers to kill its teachers because they promoted what it called the evils of secular learning, music and drawing. No children were present in the class at the time of incident.
Education Minister Najat Vallaud-Belkacem immediately visited the school Monday and promised to ensure security at all French schools.
The anti-terrorism branch of the Paris prosecutor’s office also opened an investigation for attempted murder in relation to a terrorist act.

French schools have imposed strict security measures since attacks in January, with doors locked during the day, identity checks for visitors and periodic bag searches.
