French teen Dodin reaches first WTA semifinal

Dodin took out American qualifier Lauren Davis, 6-4, 6-3, in the final to win her first career title and she will crack the Top 100 in Monday’s ranking joining fellow teenagers Daria Kasatkina, Belinda Bencic, Jelena Ostapenko, Ana Konjuh and Naomi Osaka.

Dodin, 132nd player in the world, also won 78% of points on his first serve, although it has only managed to put the ball in play at the first opportunity 58% of the time.

America’s Davis wrapped up a 6-3 7-6 (7/4) success over Russia’s Alla Kudryavtseva to set up a last-four clash against Czech Tereza Martincova, who defeated America’s Jessica Pegula 6-3 7-6 (9/7) in Friday’s other quarter-final.

She will face in the final the victor of the match between American Lauren Davis and Czech Tereza Martincova.

Oceane Dodin had never won a WTA match before this week, but the 19-year-old is now a champion after a surprise tournament win in Quebec.

Dodin will face American Julia Boserup in Saturday’s semifinals.
