Fresh gunfire heard at Indian air base near Pakistan border
India faced another terrorist attack on Saturday morning when a group of terrorists wearing army uniforms stormed the Indian Air Force (IAF) Base in Pathankot, the latest attach which Indian security officials allege was backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

One Indian security source blamed the attack on a Pakistan-based militant group, but said it posed no threat to civilians.
Associated Press writers Muneeza Naqvi in New Delhi and Aijaz Hussain in Srinagar, India, contributed to this report.
Anticipating an attack after some armed men abducted a Superintendent of Punjab Police on Thursday night, a team of National Security Guard commandos had been rushed here on Friday night itself after National Security Advisor Ajit Doval held a series of meetings with the Army chief and top Intelligence Bureau officials on Friday. Party spokesperson Randeep Surjewala mentioned the recent terror attacks in Gurdaspur and Udhampur, which is on the state’s border with Jammu and Kashmir.
Since independence from Britain, India and Pakistan have fought three wars over Kashmir, which they both occupy in part and claim in full.
Sameer Patil, a security analyst at the Gateway House think-tank in Mumbai, said Saturday’s attack was likely to be a cross-border strike possibly carried out in retaliation for the visit. The attack appeared to target Le Jardin, one of the few restaurants in Kabul still frequented by foreigners.
“Punjab is also a corridor for drug smuggling and… several (Jaish-e-Mohammed) sleeper cells have been activated in Punjab”, said a home ministry source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.
India’s Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Saturday the country wanted peace with Pakistan, but warned: “If there is any kind of terror attack on India, we will give it a fitting reply”.
It is also very close to India’s border with rival Pakistan.
Of the four calls made, three were to handlers in Pakistan, in which the terrorists reported the assault made on a senior police officer in Punjab. They only have to follow through on that commitment now, officials said.
India accuses Pakistan of arming and training Kashmir’s insurgents, a charge Islamabad denies.
