Two Palestinian assailants on Wednesday carried out a stabbing attack outside Jerusalem’s Old City, killing one Israeli, before they were shot and killed, Israeli police said.

The attacker was killed, said Israeli police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld on Thursday. Twenty-one Israelis have now been killed, a lot of them in stabbings and shooting attacks by Palestinians.
The attacks came a day after another incident in East Jerusalem where two Israelis and two Palestinian suspected assailants were killed. At least 120 Palestinians have died by Israeli fire in the same period, including 82 said by Israel to be attackers.
“A Palestinian armed with a screwdriver approached a checkpoint near Hebron and attempted to stab security forces”, the Israeli military said in a statement.
Christian faithful from around the world descended Thursday on the biblical city of Bethlehem for Christmas Eve celebrations at the traditional birthplace of Jesus, as an outburst of Israeli-Palestinian violence dampened the typically festive mood.
One of them was killed immediately and the other later succumbed to his wounds, police and paramedics said.
Palestinians are frustrated at the collapse in April 2014 of long-running peace talks with Israel and its 48-year occupation of the West Bank where they seek an independent state. “That’s an example of the ongoing political tensions between the Israelis and Palestinians”, Fox News’ John Huddy said Thursday.
Israeli Public Radio quoted Israeli army sources as saying the Palestinian young man was shot dead when carried out a stabbing attack against Israeli soldiers at the barrier.
Israel blamed these lone wolf attacks and the continued violence on incitement on social media.
Aired on television late on Wednesday, the clip showed a Jerusalem wedding last week at which a dancing celebrant stabbed a picture of 18-month-old Ali Dawabsheh while others waved assault rifles, knives and what appeared to be a petrol bomb.
In recent days, Shin Bet investigators uncovered an explosives lab in an apartment rented by Azam in Abu Dis. “An examination of the lab found that it was ready to manufacture explosives of different types, in significant quantities”, the Shin Bet said.

Their detentions have sparked anger among far-right Israelis who have held several protests, including outside the home of a judge, while lawyers have alleged torture of suspects by the domestic security agency, Shin Bet.
