Friends: Marital problems before Texas mom’s fatal rampage

As you may know, last Friday a bad tragedy occurred when 42-year-old Texas woman Christy Sheats shot and killed her two daughters, Taylor and Madison Sheats, and attempted to kill her husband.

That was when Christy called a “family meeting”, before firing several bullets into their two daughters – Taylor, 22, and Madison, 17 – killing them in the street outside their home, where both girls used to play as children.

During the meeting, investigators said, Christy Sheats pulled out a gun and fired, striking both of her daughters as they and her husband ran outside. Her mother followed her outside and shot her again, went inside and reloaded, then went outside and shot Taylor a third time. The neighbor describes Christy Sheats kneeling over her eldest daughter and shooting her dead.

Nevertheless, Caitlin Espinosa, spokeswoman for the county sheriff’s office, told PEOPLE that officers had already been at the Sheats family home “for previous altercations” linked to Christy’s mental crisis. Then the mother was shot once by a Fulshear Police officer after she refused to drop her gun, the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office said.

A press release from the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to 14 calls for service at the home since January of 2012.

According to reports, Taylor was to be married on Monday to a boyfriend whom she a relationship with since 2011. The older daughter died at the scene; the younger one at a hospital.

In the second call, a woman is heard saying, weakly, “She shot [inaudible]”.

“I always knew something would happen, but I never thought she would do this”.

Chrisler said that Christy Sheats suffered “psychological and severe health problems” over the last few years.

While little is known about the motive behind the shooting, police said they had been to the Sheats household a number of times in recent years for mental health-related issues for Christy Sheats.

“I can hear bullets”, the neighbor said.

“She said, ‘There’s a gun in the house and it makes me feel uneasy.’ She felt so unsafe.”

New details are emerging of a tragic double murder and police shooting of a mother and her two daughters.

Records obtained by the Chronicle show that authorities had visited the family home multiple times, but the sheriff would not disclose why. Some were for alarm issues, the statement says, adding that additional details can not be provided due to legal constraints. With the two girls now present she took out a gun of a couch in the living room.

Posts on Christy’s Facebook page gave no indication of any family issues.

“I’m just shocked”, said Shaun Montgomery, who graduated from Austin in 1992 and was friends and in the chorus with Christy Sheats during their high school days.
