Frohnapfel In Contention For 2015 Manning Award – University of Massachusetts

The 2015 preseason accolades continue to roll in for Arkansas State senior quarterback Fredi Knighten, who was most recently named Thursday afternoon as one of 30 quarterbacks across the nation on the Manning Award Watch List.

Unlike other awards, the Manning Award takes bowl performance into account.

Dobbs played in five games for the Vols last season and finished with a 4-1 record, including a win in the TaxSlayer Bowl against Iowa.

The 6-1, 220-pound Armstrong has engineered the Nebraska offense each of the past two seasons, compiling a 16-5 record as the Huskers’ starting quarterback. He threw for 3,793 yards with 313 completions on 540 attempts and 28 passing TDs while averaging 270.9 yards per game.

The list of 10 finalists will be released on Wednesday, November 25 and the victor will be announced on Wednesday, January 13.

If all goes well this season, Cook could end up as Michigan State’s leading passer in terms of yards as well as touchdowns – needs about 3,100 yards and 19 touchdowns to break each mark. The ACC leads the way with five selections, followed by the SEC, the Pac-12 and the American with four each.

For Hackenberg, it’s just one of several watch lists hehas been added to this preseason.

The award has been given out since 2004, and is (obviously) named after Eli, Peyton and Archie Manning. He also is a nominee for the Allstate AFCA Good Works team.

Recently named the Sun Belt Conference preseason first team quarterback, Knighten ranked among the top 50 players in the nation in 12 statistical categories as a junior in 2014. Sixty-two players from 58 different schools were honored during the 2014 season. The award is presented each year to the top quarterback in college football. Last season, one of these weekly honors was bestowed on Dobbs following his stellar performance in Tennessee’s come-from-behind, overtime victory at South Carolina.
