From Spain: Arsenal made €65m bid for Benzema

The 27-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Gunners this summer, despite the Frenchman’s agent ruling out a potential transfer.

Arsene Wenger is being hotly tipped to try and bring in another top class forward before the window slams shut and the boss admitted last week that he’s prepared to spend big if the right player becomes available [via the Mirror].

Benzema would be a great signing for Arsenal. I think there is no doubt about it, I’ve been in that dressing room when a top player comes in, it sends a ripple through the dressing room you feel nearly invincible and on the outside the opposition look at how good you were before and think how much better you will be now”, he added.

Despite Benzema’s agent pouring cold water over the rumours, AS insist that should Real Madrid make a move for a marquee front man, then the Frenchman could be allowed to follow in Mesut Özil’s footsteps and leave for North London.

The Real Madrid winger, who spent last season on loan at Villarreal is also a target for Liverpool. Theo Walcott has just signed a new contract so there are lots of options.

What’s more, AS claim that Benzema is open to the idea of linking up with a number of compatriots in Olivier Giroud, Laurent Koscielny, Mathieu Debuchy and above all, Arsene Wenger. Ian Wright and Rio Ferdinand also shared a joke on Twitter recently about Benzema, with both hoping he would join their former clubs. I think fans would be really excited to have him in the squad.
