Frozen vegetable recall expanded over Listeria concerns
The Associated Press reported that CRF Frozen Foods of Pasco, Washington, extended a previous recall to now include all organic and traditional frozen vegetable and fruit products.

Products that are affected have a “best by” or “sell by” between April 26, 2016 and April 26, 2018, said the release.
Originally, the company had only recalled 15 products, but Tuesday expanded the recall to include 358 products under 42 different brands because the products might be contaminated with with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes. We are issuing this release to alert consumers not to eat these products. Children, pregnant women, the elderly and those with weaker immune systems are at risk for more serious complications. The outbreak made 33 people sick and killed four between May 2015 and February 2016.

Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they are purchased. The CDC estimates that Listeria puts 1,600 people into the hospital each year and kills 260 of them. CRF Frozen Foods’ Pasco facility has since been shut down. Some of the people who were ill were linked to eating CRF-manufactured or processed products.
The company is working with the FDA and the CDC in connection to the recall.

CRF had already suspended operations at its Pasco facility as of Monday morning, April 25, following an initial voluntary recall, so a thorough review could be conducted. The massive recall involves 42 brands and items that may have been purchased in any of the nation’s 50 states. Several major retailers’ brands are part of the recall, including: “Costco, Costco Canada, Walmart, Safeway and Trader Joe’s”, according to Food Safety News.
