Frustrated Republicans Lambaste Lynch on Clinton Emails

FBI Director James Comey said she had multiple devices and investigators found thousands of work-related emails that had not been turned over.

The congressman said in a press release later Tuesday that Lynch had failed to answer questions about the decision not to prosecute Clinton.

US Attorney General Loretta Lynch on Tuesday defended her decision not to take legal action against Hillary Clinton over her use of a private email server.

She reiterates that her concerns about a perception problem led her to announce after the meeting that she would be accepting her investigative team’s recommendation about charges against Hillary Clinton.

Emails that Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton deleted from the private server she used when she was secretary of state – and thought no one would ever see – will eventually make their way to the American people, the State Department announced Wednesday.

“I’m going to capitulate to your prodigious dissimulation skills”, the visibly frustrated Franks replied, adding that deciding on the prosecution is her job, not that of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

She told the committee specifically, however, that she did not discuss the e-mail issue or any other matter linked with the Justice Department when she met with the former president.

The case has become a focus of attacks against Clinton by presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and sparked criticism by conservative politicians that the Justice Department was politically motivated to not prosecute Clinton.

Other investigations continue. At least one federal judge is seeking to establish whether Clinton set up the email system to thwart laws governing the public’s access to official records.

GOP lawmakers also asked about her impromptu meeting with former president Bill Clinton while the investigation was underway.

Lynch repeatedly referred the committee to last week’s testimony by FBI Director James Comey, who gave a detailed account of the investigation in a almost five-hour appearance before another House panel and described the rationale for his advice that no charges be brought.

And, in keeping with Clinton’s reputation for volubility, Lynch says that the conversation lasted longer than she had anticipated.

“I think the thing that I find so disheartening, so unfortunate about FBI Director Comey’s decision not to recommend criminal charges against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last week is for a lot of Americans it looked like we’re seeing a double standard for unequal treatment under the law”, he said.

Comey faced intense questioning from Republicans in a almost five-hour congressional hearing last week about his conclusion that Clinton hadn’t violated the law.

Goodlatte tried to get Lynch to open up about her own conclusions about the case.

“We’ll be transparent as we possibly can”, Toner said.

“The buck stops with you”, Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin told Lynch.

About halfway through the hearing, staffers of Rep. Dave Trott (R-Michigan) counted 74 times that Lynch refused to answer questions.

“As we gather here this morning, that sense of safety has been shaken by the series of devastating events that rocked our nation last week”, Lynch said in her prepared opening statement.
