The Indo-Pak Foreign Secretary-level talks will not take place as scheduled on Friday, Pakistan said Thursday, a development that comes in the wake of uncertainty created by the terror attack on the Pathankot air base. In the event even that fig leaf is not forthcoming, as Islamabad couldn’t summon up the will to detain or question those identified by India as the masterminds of the Pathankot attacks. The questioning process is underway in connection with Pathankot terror attack. “The action taken against JeM is an important and positive first step. The statement conveys that considerable progress has been made in the investigations being carried out against terrorist elements linked to the Pathankot incident”, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Vikas Swarup said.

Since gaining independence from Britain in 1947, India and Pakistan have fought three wars, two of them over Kashmir, the Himalayan region that both countries claim.

They “mutually agreed to reschedule the talks to a date in the very near future”, the spokesman said. Sources said everything would be clear after National Security Adviser Ajit Doval’s communication with his Pakistani counterpart Nasser Khan Janjua, today.

He reiterated that India does not have any information about the release of JeM chief Maulana Masood Azhar.

After a high level meeting the Pakistan prime minister’s office announced that it has arrested suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists and sealed several offices.

He also did not clarify if the Pakistant Government has given any information to India on the action taken on the leads provided by the latter.
