Shortly after passengers boarded a 6 a.m. flight to Tampa, Florida, a nearby van went rogue, causing damage to the aircraft.

Flight 891 passenger Chaz Hallock tells the Herald the impact was subtle, but noticeable.

According to WHDH, the NBC affiliate in Boston, a passenger on the flight said, “There was a big jolt that moved the plane up and down”.

JetBlue spokeswoman Paula Acevedo said a “ground operations vehicle came into contact with the aircraft”. I was in front the captain jumped up and (originally) said they thought it was a landing gear collapse but then they quickly realized we were hit. When the driver tried to regain control of the runaway van, he was not successful and ended up getting hurt and falling to the ground. “The van struck the wing of the JetBlue aircraft, causing damage to the aircraft and the van”, State Police said in a statement. “The cause of the incident remains under investigation”.

According to MassPort, the struck plane was taken out of service.
