Full list of winners of the Primetime Emmy Awards

The FX mini series scored wins for outstanding limited series and for some of its actors. The prerecorded portion began with a freeway chase (in a white Bronco) with Malcolm-Jamal Warner driving – an obvious reference to Emmys’ front-runner for limited series, “The People v. O.J. Simpson (which starred Warner as Al Cowlings)”.

“I think “Game of Thrones” will be a big victor on Emmy night”, Debra Birnbaum, executive editor for TV at entertainment industry magazine Variety, told Agence France-Presse.

The dramatization of O.J. Simpson’s sensational 1995 double murder trial looks set to sweep Sunday’s Emmy Awards, crowning an extraordinary year for American television and actors of multiple ethnic hues. From the goofy opening segment to his awkward practical joke, here are his five funniest moments of the night! She tearily paid tribute to her father, who died on Friday, but also apologized for the insane current presidential race: “I think Veep has torn down the wall between comedy and politics”.

She promised to “rebuild that wall and make Mexico pay for it”. “Our show started out as political satire, but it now feels more like sobering documentary”.

A shaking Louis-Dreyfus ended her speech by dedicating the trophy to her father, who she said died Friday.

“Thank you, Ellen DeGeneres, thank you, Hillary Clinton”, she said, naming two of the famous people she’s caricatured on the show.

Ironically enough, Maggie Smith went on to win Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, upsetting all three “Game of Thrones” actresses, who had been tapped as favorites to win.

The Emmys began on a lighter moment with a amusing nod to some of TV’s biggest pop culture moments of the past year.

After shouting out wife Angela Bassett, the actor who brilliantly embodied Johnnie Cochran on The People v. O.J. Simpson wrapped up his acceptance speech for Lead Actor in a Limited Series by bellowing, “Obama out, Hillary in!”

“If I’m late they’ll let Tom Bergeron host”, Kimmel joked.

Sterling K. Brown took home a statuette for his supporting actor role, while D.V. DeVincentis was recognized for the show’s writing.

“They are geniuses. They are unbelievable, incredible together”, show creator Joe Weisberg said at a discussion panel for Emmy-nominated writers in Beverly Hills on Thursday. Thank you, Mark. Thank you for coming all the way from England to tear us all apart with your intricate plot.

Leslie Jones also provided some comic relief during the usually staid portion of the show when viewers meet the accountants responsible for keeping the results a secret. But she knew who to credit.

“Put [her Twitter account] in your vault please,”Jones said. Meanwhile, I’m butt-naked on CNN”.

Louie Anderson was honored as best supporting actor in a comedy series for his portrayal of a loving but tough mom in “Baskets”. Violet Crowley has always been and will always be one of our favorite sassy characters of all time. She spoke out against violence against transgender people and also called for a toppling of the patriarchy.

“He made me start watching SNL when I was 12”, she said tearfully.

Finally he took his leave with the parting words, “I’ll see you later at the after party”.

Streaming services did well right out of the gate.

Perhaps Kimmel’s most well-crafted remark, which sparked a roar of approval from the audience as much for its pithiness as its wit: The much-honored Amazon transgender series “Transparent”, he said, “was born a drama, but it identifies as a comedy”. Indian-American Aziz Ansari also is nominated for his new Netflix comedy “Master of None”.

Her nod comes at a time when TV is being hailed for improved inclusivity – compared to the film industry – in both its recognition and hiring of minorities. “The Americans” managed to grab a surprising, but very deserving, nomination in the drama category this year, along with acting nods for its leads Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys.

Beck said there are no known credible threats to security in Los Angeles, but asked those attending Sunday’s Emmys in downtown Los Angeles to report any suspicious activity. Excellence deserves to be awarded, but if you’re not going to show up to claim your award, we’re willing to bet the five other actresses who did are pretty peeved – not to mention more than willing to wrench that gold statue right out of your ungrateful hands.

Kimmel acknowledged the diversity in his monologue.

We’re kind of on Kimmel’s side on this one though.
