Full moon shines on Christmas for first time in 38 years
The next full Christmas moon will appear in 2034, and that’s a long time to wait, so take advantage of the opportunity to admire it tonight, if the skies above your location are clear.

The next time a full moon will fall on Christmas day? This cycle – known as the Metonic cycle – happens because 235 returns to full moon nearly exactly equal 19 years.
However, the odds of catching a glimpse of it for many in the United Kingdom look slim, as forecasters are predicting a cloudy outlook for most areas.
If you want to see the moon, NASA says it will peak at 6:11 a.m. ET on Friday. “But this year, a bright full moon will be an added gift for the holidays”, according to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The moon will also be at a high trajectory across the sky because it’s opposite a low sun. If that’s the case, check out some great photos of the Christmas full moon from around the world below.
The full moon every December is usually called the “cold moon” because of the fact that it is the month when the winter cold is experienced.
A rare sight in the sky overhead this Christmas, and no, we’re not talking about Santa Claus. Last one was 1977, & there won’t be one again until 2034. Its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission has been investigating the moon’s surface since 2009.
