Fuller, Hopkins come up big for Osweiler as Texans beat Bears
A season-opening 23-14 loss to the Texans was not in the plans. Maybe one day they’ll grow up to do that in the second half.

The 25-year-old Osweiler, who left the Broncos to sign with the Texans as a free agent in the offseason, threw an interception on the Texans’ first possession. At times, Jeremy Lanford had to chip and help out, which opens up rushing lanes elsewhere. “I feel more natural, loose in my hips, being able to get in and out of breaks”. You absolutely cannot expect Jay to do everything himself.
“I’m glad you couldn’t read my lips”, he said. That’s definitely all on me on that one. “It was Cody’s first game out there, and (Sitton) has been with us four or five days”. However, some plays are more pivotal and important than others, and many times it’s not the plays that score the points that are the most important, but the plays leading up to the scoring plays. It was a bogus pass interference call, to be sure, but the Bears offense overcame that.
Eddie Goldman was a non-factor in this game, aside from a tackle-for-loss he shared with Jonathan Bullard.
Much like Floyd, I thought Whitehair was fine in his debut.
Sunday’s games coincided with the 15th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks.
As impressive as Jeffery was in Sunday’s game, Kevin White had an inauspicious debut for the Bears.
The signs are already evident that White’s got a steep learning curve. The Bears were only 4 of 13 on third down.
That is a stark contrast to the day Cutler had with Alshon Jeffery.
Does this mean he’s a bust? No. Here you go. No, seriously.
But I guess it depends on how you look at it. But starting cornerback Kyle Fuller was ruled out, and the Bears didn’t name his replacement right away.
Surprisingly though, the Bears DBs were not the problem today. They didn’t hurt the defense, but they didn’t make any plays either.
Porter did give up a TD catch to Hopkins, which will happen because Hopkins is…really good.
The star receiver, who was second in the National Football League with a career-high 1,521 yards receiving last season, compared his ones to those that Miller wore, which look more like a boot.
In the secondary, Andre Hal got the only defensive takeaway of the game. Jay [Cutler] has seen him play and played with him before. “We should be patting him on the butt after touchdown passes”. With a couple of drops and a horribly-run route that cost Cutler an interception, White was a downright liability at times for the Bears, and his stat line of three catches for 34 yards was only inflated because of a pair of garbage time catches late in the game. We practiced against all kinds of stuff all week. Osweiler, who threw an interception on his first drive, generally had his numbers inflated by the strong play of his receivers. “He and Jay played together in Denver, so they’ve got a chemistry”.
The Bears ran the ball 20 times, while the Texans ran it 35. More than once, he was wholly enveloped by his blocker on pass rushes, never getting particularly close to the quarterback. He overthrew Fuller nearly as often as he connected with him, though, and his numbers were fairly Hoyer-riffic, for the most part.
“You don’t see defenses like this week in and week out”, Cutler said about Houston. If Fox is going to get all huffy about whether Adam Gase took the offense to Miami, then Dowell Loggains had better show that Fox’s game-shortening offense is still around. He found the mark in the second quarter by lofting the ball into the corner of the end zone where only Hopkins could get to it.

The defense gave up some big plays early on and the Bears took a lead into halftime.
