FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) – A couple of doors down from Club Blu, where a young man and a 14-year-old boy were killed while attending a teen party, shop owner Idis Edouard hoisted a rod above his head to gently move a girl’s blue dress aside.
Syreeta Gary told WFTX-TV her daughter ran and dodged bullets to avoid being shot.
Club Blu is located in a strip mall that includes a day care center and sits across the street from a large apartment complex. “As the club was closing and parents were picking their children up. that’s when all this took place”.
While authorities reported that three people were detained for questioning, Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers asked for the public’s assistance on Tuesday to generate any information on the shooting.
She said the outpouring of support has created a feeling of gratitude and hope. Police haven’t said whether the men were involved in the shooting.
The three men fled upon seeing lights from sheriff’s deputies and Fort Myers police until one deputy immobilized a vehicle carrying two of them and shot Church in the stomach with Church’s auto accelerating toward him, investigators said. He was treated and released from the hospital and placed under arrest for aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and fleeing and eluding.
“We just want everybody to be safe”, Gov. Rick Scott told reporters at a news conference in Fort Myers. “An idiot with a firearm”.
The Southwest Florida Community Foundation partnered with the city of Fort Myers and the United Way of Lee, Charlotte, Glades and Okeechobee Counties to open the Together Fort Myers fund to assist the victims and families. “If we do teen parties, we always have a ton of security, and we’ve never had a problem”.
“The staff and students at Royal Palm School were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Sean Archilles”, Principal Robert Morretti said in a prepared statement released by school officials.

State records show this wasn’t the first time violence had broken out at Club Blu.
