Furious Yaya Toure blasts CAF as ‘worse than FIFA’ over award snub

Toure captained Ivory Coast to 2015 Africa Cup of Nations victory but came second to Gabon and Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

For the first time since the CAF started organizing the event in 2004, Ivory Coast were named Africa’s best national team, while Cameroon won the best women’s national team award in 2015.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang beat Toure with 143 to 136 points, while Ghana’s Andre Ayew finished third with 112 points.

There has recently been renewed speculation that Arsenal are planning a move for Gabon worldwide Aubameyang, who has scored 18 Bundesliga goals this season and was named Africa’s Footballer of the Year on Thursday. But what can we do about it? All three were also part of Africa’s Finest XI, and the Ivory Coast was still Africa’s Team of the Year.

“We give more priority to what’s going on elsewhere than in our own continent”. It’s unfair! Even FIFA, with all its history of corruption, wouldn’t do [what CAF judges did].

My answer would be; CIV were not the best team but the collective caliber of the players in the team took them to the finish line, of which Yaya was a part but not the most important!

“When you are standing alongside players like Yaya Toure or Andre Ayew there is pride in winning such a trophy ahead of them because they are great players and I obviously admire them a lot”.

“I am happy and proud with this honour that I dedicate to the people of Gabon, my family and you, Mr President”, said the Dortmund star.

Finally, today things really hit the transfer red zone as a reliable journalist with a track record of precision when it comes to Arsenal news, tweeted out confirmation that the Gunners had launched a €60m bid for the 26-year-old forward. So much so that in an interview with RFI, he went on a wide-ranging rant, decrying Africa’s lack of respect for African achievements, and his “disappointment” about the “indecency” of it all. But he used his acceptance speech at the award ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria, to pledge his future to the Bundesliga side.

“You never win alone so I would like to congratulate my staff”, said Renard.
