Furyk makes history with 58 at Travelers
Jim Furyk celebrates with his caddy Mike, Fluff, Cowan after shooting a PGA record 58 during the final round of the Travelers Championship golf tournament in Cromwell, Conn., Sunday, Aug. 7, 2016.

Furyk punctuated his historic round with a two-putt par at the 18th hole.
Knox becomes the only player, outside the world’s top ten, to enjoy multiple wins in the 15- season, putting him contention as a possible wildcard for the Euopean Ryder Cup Team.
Geiberger, the first man to shoot a 59 in a PGA Tour event back in 1977 and the man who has held at least a share of that record for 39 years, always said he had an idea of how someone would shoot 58.
Even though he failed to win tournament, despite history-making scores, Furyk understood the accomplishments.
He’d gone out on fire with a course-record 27 and returned home with the glow of inviting embers warming in the fireplace on a chilly winter day, firing a back-nine 31 that included what would become a 23-foot record-breaking birdie putt on 16. He was previously one of only six players to shoot a round of 59, which he did in the second round of the 2013 BMW Championship. 13 and 14, then survived a bogey at No. 16 and a wild tee shot and a bunkered approach at No. 18 to par the hole and deny Kelly, who played college golf at the nearby University of Hartford, a chance at a playoff.
Furyk is the first player to break 60 twice in competition on a major professional Tour.
Furyk – who did not make an appearance between September and May due to a wrist injury that required surgery – needed just 24 putts and hit all 18 greens in regulation.
“I’m very happy for him, and it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy”, Knox said of Furyk.
Furyk, 46, a 17-times victor on tour, has made a career out of his machine-like consistency, and he was in that mode in the final round, hitting all 18 greens in regulation. He talked during the week about being “mentally drained” but fought back on the back nine on Friday just to make the cut on the number.
The Travelers Championship has carved out a niche and strong identity on the PGA Tour despite its unenviable position on the schedule.
Wesley Bryan birdied the second playoff hole to defeat JT Poston and Grayson Murray on Sunday at the Web.Com Tour’s Digital Ally Open at the Nicklaus Golf Club in Overland Park, Kan. I had a special feeling.
Wall then made birdie at the long 11th to go one up and he maintained his lead to win on the last when Noren missed a birdie effort from 15 feet that would have forced extra holes.
Three of the four birdies were 3 feet or less.
Daniel Berger started the round with a three-shot lead, looking to bag his second million-dollar payday this summer.
What you might remember forever is what Knox did at The Players Championship earlier this year.
EUROPEAN: In North Berwick, Scotland, Anthony Wall of England won his first European Tour title in more than 16 years, beating Alex Noren of Sweden 1 up in the final of the Paul Lawrie Match Play.
CROMWELL – In Mexico last fall, a week after he won his first PGA Tour tournament, Russell Knox had a putt to win another.
