Furyk shoots PGA Tour-record 58 in final round at Travelers
That gave him two holes to reach a number completely unfathomable to the golf world: 57.

Furyk carded his seventh consecutive birdie at the par-4 12th, meaning he could par the rest of the holes to shoot 59 on the par-70 course – but Furyk wasn’t finished carding red numbers.
Furyk recorded 10 birdies, including seven in a row, and an eagle on the third hole to accomplish the feat.
Jim Furyk set a PGA Tour record Sunday, shooting a 58 during the final round of the Travelers Championship.
Furyk was already one of six men to have hit a sub 60 total for 18 holes. I had a special feeling. I remembered the mental battle, the grind. “It was tougher conditions at Conway (Farms), but a little smoother round of golf today than there”.
That was the most recent 59 recorded on the tour.
Other examples of 58s in competition include Ryo Ishikawa on the Japan Tour in 2010, Shigeki Maruyama at a US Open sectional qualifier in 2000 and Jason Bohn on the Canadian Tour in 2001.
Furyk – who did not make an appearance between September and May due to a wrist injury that required surgery – needed just 24 putts and hit all 18 greens in regulation. He was 1-over par entering the final round on Sunday at TPC River Highlands.

Despite his record-breaking round Furyk is not in contention to win as he is still four behind leader Daniel Berger, before he starts his final round. “So to hold it on the PGA Tour is phenomenal”, Furyk said.
