Future bleak for Sturridge after Klopp’s latest snub

Tottenham have been in talks with Eriksen all summer and were taken aback when a £150,000 demand was understood to have been made, but he is still set to become one of their top earners. He sees the player being an important part of his Reds setup.

Liverpool legend John Aldridge says that Daniel Sturridge can’t afford to “mope about and feel sorry for himself” and challenged the striker to fight for his place in the starting line-up.

Sturridge’s future at Anfield remains unclear after the forward started on the bench at White Hart Lane. Klopp is no doubt aware that Sturridge would probably have converted at least one of the opportunities wasted by the Brazilians.

Yet the Liverpool manager offered these words of comfort for his high profile bench-warmer. Yet Klopp has consistently maintained that he rates Ings and is keen to have him with the first-team this season.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp plays down the significance of Daniel Sturridge only being handed a two-minute cameo against Tottenham Hotspur.

He did play in the final game of the last Premier League season and in preseason games against Barcelona and Chelsea but has yet to play in a competitive fixture in the current campaign. He will play and he will score and all will be good.

He admitted that they “have to accept it” because equally Alderweireld’s header going in would have made it “the same game but with two goals for Tottenham” and instead chose to focus on the positives.

“A few other players had more pre-season”.

“I’m really happy that we have him”, he added.

“Nobody has real rhythm”.

Let’s be honest, Daniel Sturridge was sporting an nearly child-like expression that could easily have soured milk, in the away dugout at White Hart Lane when it became apparent that Divock Origi was being called into action before him. It’s a good team, thank God.

Sturridge might find it useful to compare his approach and medal collection with that of James Milner. “He has still to adapt and learn the position”, he said.

“I think I have adapted throughout my career to playing different positions and this one is different as well”.

Even without TV money, Premier League clubs have been ahead of everyone in Europe except for a number of elite or super rich clubs, that didn’t represent the spending power of their league.

“No transfer rumours”, Klopp said. “He’s a brilliant footballer”, the manager said.

“From the moment I first spoke with him I knew that I wanted to join Liverpool”. He is master of none. It’s an especially impressive bid considering Ings came to Liverpool for only £8 million (after the compensation tribunal finally got around to making the decision in April) and the striker spent most of the season sidelined after a devastating ACL tear.
