After meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin today, Obama indicated there was no deal on solving the humanitarian crisis in Syria.

Declining to provide further details on the talks, the Russian president said he had “grounds to believe” results may be achieved “within the next few days”.

The two leaders conversed on the sidelines of the Group of 20 summit in Hangzhou for ninety minutes, a senior U.S. official said, and worked to clarify gaps in negotiations over on the Syrian crisis.

Both countries are interested in fighting terrorism, Putin said, adding that “the USA president is absolutely honest in striving for a resolution of the Syrian conflict”.

Also a hot topic: the presidential race back home, which world leaders are monitoring closely.

Chinese President said members of the G20 have agreed to advance anti-graft campaigns including the establishment of a research center on fugitive repatriation and asset recovery in China.

Obama told reporters in Hangzhou on September 5 that the two leaders discussed ongoing negotiations between their top diplomats over Syria.

American President Barack Obama said on Monday that there are still “differences between his country and Russian regarding Syria”, stressing that a ceasefire would facilitate fighting terrorism including Daesh and Al-Nusra Front, AlKhaleejOnline.com reported. “But given the gaps of trust that exist, that’s a tough negotiation”. “Our other partners, including Iran, will also be informed [on the progress]”, Putin added.

Obama was asked at a news conference in China on Monday whether he intends to meet Duterte, as planned, at a gathering in Laos this week of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Obama called the discussion on Syria “productive” about what a real cessation of hostilities would actually look like. “After that Obama and Putin held a one-on-one meeting behind closed doors”, he said, according to TASS.
